THE SMILE FACTORY
AN INDUSTRIAL WAREHOUSE TURNED INTO A REHABILITATION CENTER
GF Centro de Rehabilitación, which belongs to the Foltra foundation, is a clinic specialized in the physical and intellectual rehabilitation of patients with neurological damage. The challenge presented to Freehand Arquitectura was to adapt the spaces for people with physical and neurological disabilities, starting from a particularly limited budget.
The space to intervene was an industrial warehouse located in the Villapark industrial estate, on the outskirts of Madrid.
THE IMPORTANCE OF LIGHT
We transform the space into a very accessible double height warehouse. The administration offices are located on the mezzanine floor. On the access floor there are compartmentalized rehabilitation rooms that will lead to a final open space. The light circulates evenly throughout the space.
AN ENVIRONMENT AS PLEASANT AS POSSIBLE
Among the client's needs, the most important was to create a pleasant and accessible environment to impart therapies to neurodeficient patients.
We were inspired by our own studio, Loft 20, at the request of the clients, trying to fit it into the budget possibilities.
For this we use low-cost recycled materials and we manage to transform an industrial warehouse into a modern, pleasant and welcoming clinic, specialized in “producing smiles” for its patients.
